Challenge
Tervita is a leading environmental solutions provider that offers trusted sustainability options to oil and gas, industrial and mining companies and the communities in which they operate.
A future-focused organization, Tervita wanted to improve access to information and collaboration across their business to better engage, inform and empower their over 1000 employees, including those who require remote or mobile access. Through the development of a next-generation intranet, Tervita began their journey towards building a digital workplace that delivers value, facilitates communication and fosters connection to all employees, wherever they might be working.
Solution
Sparrow Intranet + Mobile App
Tervita engaged DevFacto to help envision, design and implement their new-generation intranet. Following a detailed requirements gathering process including a number of information design workshops, it was decided that the new intranet had to meet the following criteria in order to be deemed successful:
- Simple and easy to use
- Based on SharePoint Online in Office 365
- Mobile enabled and secure
- Tervita branded and responsively designed
- Global search functionality
- Decentralized publishing capabilities with a simple governance framework
Given these criteria, it became clear that DevFacto’s Sparrow intranet product would be the best fit solution for achieving Tervita’s goals. Simple to implement, Sparrow intranet was an efficient and cost effective way to get the modern features they were looking for: fresh mobile-first design, rich analytics, contextualization, a targeted news centre, related content, and more.
In addition to quick implementation, Tervita has access to future intranet components and updates along with Sparrow product support, all resulting in a lower total cost of ownership.
Outcome
During implementation of the Sparrow intranet, DevFacto also worked with Tervita to:
- Review the state of the current intranet
- Conduct an in-depth content analysis
- Recommend a data migration and content clean-up approach
- Design standard branding
- Define new rules for intranet governance
- Configure SharePoint Search
