Challenge
The Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan (ASEBP) provides employee benefits and programs primarily to the K-12 education sector in Alberta. Their previous portal, which enabled school jurisdictions to manage employee benefit enrolment and coverage changes, was becoming outdated. The system was difficult to maintain; making changes in one area would often inexplicably impact other portal functions. Ultimately, it was becoming difficult for ASEBP to make the necessary changes required to keep up with their evolving business rules and user requirements.
Solution
DevFacto and ASEBP worked together to build the Employer Services Portal (ESP), a web application that is scalable, maintainable, and rich in user experience. School jurisdictions can easily submit benefit transactions directly through the portal (such as adding new employees or updating records) in a much more efficient and easy-to-use manner.
ESP connects to ASEBP’s centralized rules engine, so all information is securely stored, records are updated automatically, and users are notified of pertinent information (e.g. upcoming deadlines, expiring records, etc.)
The ESP redesign has improved the overall usability and effectiveness of the portal, resulting in increased user satisfaction and improved efficiency of ASEBP employees who now have access to a better toolset for information management, communication, and managing their relationship with school jurisdictions. The redesign has also improved the maintainability and extensibility of the product, so ASEBP employees can now respond rapidly to changes in their business and provide the best service to their clients.
